When Ranken's Rocking Horse Ranch opened seven years ago, our lifelong dream became a reality.

The Rocky Mountain Horse captured our hearts and our attention. We did a lot of research and investigation, but no other breed could offer the Rocky's consistently smooth, natural four beat gait and great disposition. The more we learned about these magnificent horses, the more we liked about them. The Rocky personality shines through in every one of our horses. They are kind, gentle, quick to learn, and eager to please. Each one has distinct qualities that make them exciting and entertaining to be around.

Our ranch is a family operation. We, along with our children and grandchildren, spend time with the horses daily. It's not just a job or hobby--for us, it's a passion. We begin training our new foals by be present for the actual birth. Within two to four weeks, we are able to lead and handle them with ease. During the first year we continue to work on leading, trailering, respect, grooming, and hoof trimming. As the babies become yearlings, we also include ground driving, introduction to many distractions to give our yearlings confidence for the trail. The yearlings are introduced to blankets and saddles so they are very calm and relaxed before they go under saddle. This year we have five two-year-olds that will go under saddle this summer and fall. We are also expecting five new foals starting in April.

We have a great selection of horses of ages from 9 years old to weanlings. Five mares are all in foal and doing great. We are very diligent in our breeding program. We only breed for disposition, conformation and gentleness. Our goal is to strengthen and preserve the great Rocky traits that make these horses so special.
